How to fill out a PDF form
- Open the form. Drop the PDF above or choose it from your device. FormFlow reads it inside your browser.
- Type into the pink boxes. Fillable fields are highlighted where they sit on the page. Text fields take typing, checkboxes and round options take a tap, and dropdowns open a list. The panel on the right shows how many fields you have filled.
- Add what the form forgot. Not every PDF is fillable. Choose Text, Checkmark, Date or Signature, then tap the spot on the page. Drag to fine-tune the position.
- Decide whether to lock it. Leave fields editable if someone else still has to complete part of the form. Tick Lock answers when you are sending a final copy.
- Download. Press Finish & download and save the new PDF. Then sign it, or start over with another form.
Fillable PDFs contain "AcroForm" fields — named boxes that store your answers separately from the page drawing. That is why answers stay crisp and searchable, and why the recipient can read them with any PDF reader. Flat PDFs are just a picture of a form; for those, FormFlow draws your text straight onto the page at the spot you choose.
Examples
- New-patient intake form from a clinic: name, date of birth, insurance details and a dozen yes/no checkboxes, then lock and email back.
- Scanned rental application with no fields: tap Text next to each line to type your answers and add a checkmark beside "I agree".
- Form W-9 from irs.gov: fill name, tax classification and TIN, then continue to Sign PDF for the signature and date.
Questions people ask
How do I know if my PDF is fillable?
Open it here. If the PDF has form fields, FormFlow highlights every one of them in pink and lists them on the right. If it says the PDF has no fillable fields, it is a "flat" PDF — you can still type anywhere on it with Add text and tick boxes with Checkmark.
Will the person I send it to see my answers?
Yes. Answers are saved into the form fields themselves, which every mainstream PDF viewer shows. If you want the answers to look identical everywhere and not be editable, tick "Lock answers (flatten)" before downloading.
Can I fill IRS forms like the W-9 or W-4?
Download the current form from irs.gov and open it here. Official IRS PDFs are fillable, so their fields are detected automatically. Always use the newest revision from the IRS website rather than an old copy saved months ago.
Why did some characters turn into question marks?
FormFlow writes answers with the standard PDF Helvetica font, which covers English and Western European letters. Characters outside that set, such as Chinese or emoji, are replaced so the file still opens everywhere.
Is my form uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened, filled and saved by JavaScript running in this tab. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool will still work.
